Fatsgiving is coming!

Fats In The Cats is doing their end of biking season party at the Slingerland Pavillion at Spring Farm on November 15. They have graciously invited any GUMBA members who would like to attend. You can find out more about it here. It's a pot luck feast, so if you're coming email Mark or Matt, and let us what you're bringing. There is a pre-party ride, so bring your bike (and helmet).

GUMBA is a group of mountain bikers dedicated to preserving the privilege of riding in the Shawangunk mountains. As a member of the International Mountain Biking Association, GUMBA educates mountain bikers in appropriate trail etiquette, the IMBA rules of the trail, and land management regulations. GUMBA works to improve mountain bikers' relationship with the non-riding public, land management, and other trail user groups. We represent and advocate for the views of mountain bikers.

We work toward that end by volunteering our time to the Mohonk Preserve and the Minnewaska State Park. Each GUMBA member makes a commitment to ride patrol, assist on trail work projects, or help out with advocacy events. We are a vital part of the Mohonk and Minnewaska community and provide a valuable service.

We do a training session in the spring (2009 training is scheduled for April 25th). If you can't attend the regular training we do spot training during the regular patrol season. If you are interested in joining GUMBA, go check out our Joining GUMBA web page.

The Mohonk Preserve will be giving GUMBA patrollers (even those who only ride at Minnewaska State Park) access badges that can be used to enter preserve lands on days when you are not riding patrols. These volunteer badges will be good for hiking and biking. And since Minnewaska lets bikes in for free, this means you can park at the West Trapps lot and ride up to the park for free. So if you are a returning patroller, be sure to let us know if you intend to patrol this year. If you were kind of on the fence about joining GUMBA, this is another perk to consider.
